Doing a few things for a freind who's husband passed away. Changed the shower enclosure, and I'm about ready to install the pedestal sink. Put the faucets on no problem. When I started to install the drain, I noticed that from the underside, the sink was hollowed out. There is a internal space,(3" or so), between where the sink bottom sits on the pedestal, and the upper inside where the drain stopper sits. Sort of a double bowl. the lower being deeper.

Both sides have a center hole. After installing the chrome ring from the top, I can't get the thich rubber washer and nut through the lower hole to come up to the underside of the top. Is the washer ment to be installed on the lower hole, then the nut? This is how I installed it, but not sure if this is correct.

Wish I had a pic, cause reading all this isn't very clear. Thanks in advance Dennis

I think you did it right. The space between the two layers is usually where the overflow water flows. If you look at the drain assembly, there should be slots in the pipe which allow the water in the space to enter the drain.

Thanks for the quick reply. There are slotted holes in the pipe. Didn't think about overflow. Makes sense. Thanks Dennis

One last Q before I head out to finish. I put that thick tapered rubber washer with the taper facing up, then the flat plastic washer, than the nut? Seemed to make the most sense to me

Corrrect...
The taper centers and forms the seal..
The friction washer (plastic one) stops the rubber from galling when the nut tightens...
