Very much a local question. Some places definitely NOT. Here in California, flexible connectors are MANDATORY.
If your area allows flex, then you will find corrugated copper types, as well as the braided stainless steel. For some reason, I have noticed an unusually high failure rate on the braided. I can't explain that , because they are similar to the ubiquitous faucet supplies, which are very reliable.
I don't know if it is the larger size, the proximity to the flue pipe on a gas WH ( I suspect that is the issue) but I have seen way too many pinhole leaks, and will not use them.
