Old tub no shower, can I change the spout?

We inherited an old house that has i think a porcelin tub with old metal fixtures and no shower, can i change the spout out to add a shower?

Adding a shower to your old tub is certainly something that can be done, but the new "spout" or spigot you will need will be different than the usual one unless you intend to do some additional plumbing work behind the wall to install a riser pipe to service your new showerhead. So then, the new spigot you will need will likely have a fitting for attaching either a decorative pipe or hose going up to the showerhead to be attached to the wall and will likely be part of an engineered "retrofit package".
