On Feb 5th the temp dropped to 9 below with winds of over 45 creating a wind chill of 47 below. I had my water faucets on low hoping that nothing would freeze but to no use. Everything froze up. I got the pipes thawed and repaired, changed the pressure tank, switch and gage. When I switched on the pump there was nothing. The pump comes on and tries to pump but it keeps grabbing air somewhere.

Everyone I ask about the problem tell me that I'm out of water and of course they want an arm and a leg in money to come and give me a [free estimate:confused: ]. I have never run out of water even when this past summer we only had 3 inches of rainfall for the season. I can't see how I could go from having plenty of water before the freeze to no water now. I have inquired that possibly the drop line may of froze part way but they tell me that is impossible even though I found that the well cap was not all the way on.

Does anyone have any idea what my problem may be. The well is over 100 feet with a submersible.

Can you hear the pump or water running at the well casing?

Have you done any electrical tests like ohms and continuity of the cable/motor? If you get no readings then the cable is not connected to the pump. Yes the drop pipe could have frozen or the line from the well could be frozen from the casing into the house. Maybe the drop pipe broke and broke the cable.

Maybe the pump was left running against a frozen line and it burnt up.

Yes the pump runs and I can hear it coming up the pipe then it acts like it only comes so far and stops. A friend suggested that it might have an air lock so this afternoon they are coming over to see if that might be the problem. I read on "star water systems troubleshooting guide" that it might be the problem and they suggested to turn on the pump - let it cycle - turn it off etc, etc. I'm going to give it a try and will let it be known whether success or failure.
