Is a closet bend just a regular 90-degree fitting? Or is it different?

Ultramax toilet continues to block frequently in "real world" use (so to speak).

However, I can flush fairly large amounts of plain toilet paper down without a problem. (10 wads x 24" of Charmin UltraSoft).

This makes me think that there are no obstructions. (Used a mirror to check the trap; dumped 10 gallons of water into system and it flowed no problems).

However, with a "solid" load, it will often block.

I had the toilet off yesterday and noticed that the 90-degree bend right below the flange seems like a tight turn. I'm wondering whether the solids can't make such a sudden turn without, um, piling up and blocking...

Do they usually use a larger radius bend directly under the toilet flange? Or are 90-degree ABS pipe fittings only available in one radius?

Thanks!

A closet bend is a tighter radius than a "regular" DWV elbow, to ease fitting into joist spaces. It is not usually an issue with waste/

If something will go through the 2", or so, passage of the toilet, it will not have a problem with the 3" closet bend. You either have a toilet problem, or a drain line problem, but not a closet bend problem.

To test the toilet trapway, next time you have the toilet removed you can take a 2" - 2 1/8" diameter ball and see if you can drop it into the well and rotate the toilet to see if the ball will go all the way through the trapway and come out of the outlet. You may have a defect in the trapway where it partially collapsed during firing. If the ball gets lodged it is defected.
