Dry Sump Pump Pit ??

Recently I've noticed that there is no water in the pit of my sump pump. It usually has some water in it. When i pour water in it the float activates the pump, but the water seems to be draining elsewhere rather than through the pump. Today my back yard is flooded due to rain and the pit is completely dry. Is this something I need to look into?

Are you complaining that your basement is dry?

If I had a sump pit that went dry I would be very happy.

If the rest of the basement is dry all is well.
