How difficult is it to replace the gas control valve/thermostat on a Whirlpool 50 gal Flamelock Gas Water heater?

Not real difficult but what brought you to this point that replacement is the answer?

Did tech support send you a new valve?

Have you first replaced the special left hand thread thermocouple? Are you sure the gas valve needs replacement? Is it still under warranty?
