Shower Faucet Problems

The shower stems in my basement shower are stripped so the handles just spin. I need to replace the stems but don't know the original manufacturer. I went to a couple of local stores (Home Dep*t & *******) and bought two new stems (hot & cold) that looked similar to the existing ones.

I replaced the stems with new handles, but when I turn on the water, nothing comes out.

Anybody else run into similar situations? If so, I would appreciate some feedback.

Thanks

stems

In the first place the new stems have to be EXACTLY like the old one, not "look like they fit". If the stems are the correct ones, and the handles are the right fit, then turning them HAS to open the valve and let the water flow. If it doesn't, then YOU have to find out the reason, because it doesn't make sense to us, but then we cannot see what you have done so far.
