My cheap and thin shower arm cracked under the constant wiggling of the shower head. The problem is the fact the threaded end (all of it) stayed in the fitting and broke away from the rest of the shower arm. I have been advised to use an "easy out tool" to remove the threaded material. Considering the arm seems be made from copper (?) and the fitting appears to be brass or copper (?), how do I go about actually using the tool???

Do you just cram the end in the hole and start twisting??? Help.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me on a job 3 weeks ago.

You are correct..the tool goes into the hole and you twist it. It then expands to fit the pipe...but...

I have the standard 3 piece set of extractors that HD sells. None of them fit. I ended up prying out the broken piece with a hammer and screwdriver. Took less than 5 minutes. The metal is thin and bends easily.

This EasyOut extractor has had the end sawed off so that it won't bottom out in the fitting. This one was rented from a hardware store.

Another easy method, easier to find tool

I looked all over for an easy out big enough to do the job, and couldn't. Tried a lot of other suggestions on other forums here, but my pipe is so old and stuck it wouldn't move, and I was getting worried about really damaging the other pipes. I finally found this, which worked perfectly:

Very easy step by step instructions and it works!
