I have been using the same well for 25 years, about a year ago I started getting lots of rust in my water. I have a steel well sleeve-but can it be rusting that fast? Will it help to raise the submersible pump up in the shaft? My well is 135 feet deep with about 30 feet of water in it in the summer. I am using up cartridge filters-should I get a back flushable filter? What is a good source for well equipment?

The line coming from the well may be galvanized and I would suspect this is the sourse.

How deep is your well and how far from the house is it?

Groundwater quality changes. Steel well casing rusts. Especially with low pH (acidic) water. Iron content changes in wells. Sometimes caused by iron reducing bacteria.

Disposable cartridge ("whole house") filters weren't invented for "whole house" filtration. So they are not a good choice for POE (point of entry) use.

You should have a water test done for hardness, iron and pH.

the pump house is attached to the garage. All above ground pipes are PVC or Copper, except for four fittings at the top of the well shaft. The 135 feet of pipe in the well is 1 1/4 PVC ch 40. I am going to have the water tested.
