I'm working on a shower and have done a few joints using Dutch-Boy lead free solder, but am wondering if I should be using 95/5 solder?
is there a difference in strenght or reliability?
I'm also looking to switch to a tinning flux and noticed C-Flux is rated for 95/5, 60/40, etc.., but does not list the above lead free solder. I take it that I should use those two together?
I did find some Dutch-boy tinning or water soluble Oatey 95(the only type I could find) that I'll probably use.
The Oatey 95 is the best in my NSHO. It will change color as it heats and after a while you can tell the temp by the color. It also makes for a better joint as the solder will flow / wick better into the joint with the pretinning than it will without. Wipe the joint with a dry or damp rag and your done.

Dutch boy or Canfield is good solder.....
ALL the 95-5s can be a little difficult to use if you have
not done much soldering.....
useing the tinning flux is a very good idea,
and the OATY 95 is the best
its best to STAY AWAY from the
water soluable fluxes if you can
just get a little tin of the Oaty Green stuff
at LOWES , only 1.00
Believe me,
even professionals have problems working with
any of the water soluables....
95/5 has a very narrow plastic range so the heat applied is somewhat critical, and it is more difficult to "fill" a looser joint, because it is either flowing or hard.

thanks for the info.
Sounds like I made the right choice going with lead free solder. The few joints that I have done I've used Canfield flux that seems to work well but I'm after that extra insurance with the tinning flux.
The only Oatey 95 I have been able to find is the water soluble type. I've been to all the big name stores and even called around with no luck.
Where do you guys find this stuff? I live in AZ.
HD should have it. Try asking the guy who runs the plumbing area.
By me everyone (except maybe the blue big box) stocks the Oatey 95 (and not H2O-95). Ace, Do-It, HD, True V -- everyone who sells plumbing.
BTW, 95/5 solder is lead free.........

I've been to HD, ACE, Ls, mom&pop shops and can only find H20. about out of places to call..
closest I've been able to get is Dutch-boy tinnning.
Perhaps in your locale the AHJ enforces code requirements for water soluble flux.
I went looking for Oatey H2O-95 and nobody had it here.
