Hi--my wife picked out some brasstech strainers and I need to install them. They come woth a thin foam gasket that fits between the basket and the sink. Does this mean I don't need any putty?

Second--it assembles with a hollow screw in the center of the basket--it has two small notches in it. Clearly I need a tool for this--my old strainer tools don't help. (It has a PVC underside) Er...what do I need?

You should always install the product according to the manufacturers instructions to maintain the warranty.

Now with that being said, I always throw the foam gasket away and use 100% silicone under the top flange. Clean up the silicone with alot of paper towels before it dries, denatured alcohol helps if you have it.
I put a quarter in the slot and tighten with a pair of pliers. Carefull not to overtighten.
