Hi all

I've recently gutted my old bathroom and installed a new one.

I've replaced the sink taps with a mono mixer but i'm having issues with it.

The main issue is i have mains cold and gravity fed hot. This causes great issues with the mixer.
Issue 1) You only get hot when you turn the mixer to FULL hot mening you get really hot water.

Issue 2) Its dam loud.

issue 3) its feeding cold water back up the hot pipes. If i turn the bath mixer on to FULL hot. hot water comes out. If i then put the sink mixer in the middle and turn turn it on so its mixing hot and cold. After a coupld of seconds the bath water turn cold.

Any one know of mixers that will work with my setup?

mixers

A pressure balanced mixer, if this is a tub or shower, should work although any valve is going to have a hard time balancing a gravity hot and a pressure cold, without the cold pushing back into the hot side. If it is a sink there is no valve that will work.

yep its the sink.

I've got 15mm service valves on them. Do you think it would be best to change the hot valve so it does not restrict the flow so much?

valve

No. Your problem is a pressure differential, and high pressure is always going to overwhelm low pressure, in addition to trying to equalize the pressure by filling the hot water piping until it evens out. All you can do is open the hot water fully and use the minimum cold water to temper it. You may have to remove the aerator from the spout to minimize the back pressure that is forcing the cold water into the hot side.

Thanks i'll give that a try to see what happens.

Do you think it would be worth changing the hot service valve to a full bore service valve to get better flow on the hot.
