my water heater sits at the far end of my house. my problem is that it takes forever for hot water to reach the kitchen which is at the other end of the house(about 70 ft.) other than putting in another water heater for the kitchen end do i have other options.

Recirculation line - 1/2" water line from kitchen hot water piping back to cold inlet side of water heater with a small pump and timer of thermostatic control...
Pumps water back to heater until water in supply line at kitchen reads as warm/hot....

Many options

You probably have several options, here are three. You could move the w/h to a more central location or look into retrofitting a w/h recirculating pump. They also make a small w/h that would fit under your sink giving you a fast but limited source of hot water.

Good Luck,

Scott

I know you said you did not want a second water heater but. Why not think about a second small (15 gallon) tank on the far end of the house. I would run it off the other tank so you would just be keeping the water hot and not using it to heat a lot of water. You would still depend on the larger tank for hot water.

I do think that power wise it would be cheaper than a pump. And you would not have to mess with timers or deal with more electronics. IMO most of the cost in hot water is making it not storing it.

water

Get a Grundfos "Comfort", or Laing "Autocirc" pump system. One has a pump at the heater with a control manifold under the sink, the other installs under the sink but you need an electical outlet for it. Either one will circulate the water through your existing piping and give you warm water immediately and hot water a short time later. Some communities, such as the ones in this area, have a program which basically pays for the unit. Contact your water department to see it yours does.
