Help tonight, bathtub

we are trying to replcae the bathtub, we took off the faucet and single handle, but it wont stop leaking. The water is off but it keps dripping. It is leaking from the handle, but it leaks from the faucet if we put the handle back on. please help

what brand of faucet is it?

Where is the water turned off? Is it possible that the water is coming from the water heater running out water because the faucet/handle is lower than the water heater? Are you making sure the faucet/handle parts are installed correctly and everything is seated properly?
