I have the washers etc to fix a leaky bathtub faucet, delta. How do I take the faucet apart to get to the washers? Yes, I do have the water turned off.

1. Remove the handle using an allen wrench to unscrew the hidden set screw.

2. Remove the backer plate (2 screws) and pull out the sleeve.

3. Unscrew the knurled retaining cap using a channel locks.

4. Pull out the ball stem.

5. Remove the rubber seats and springs and replace with new.

Delta

Which version of Delta faucet do you have? Each has a different method of repair, and different parts to repair it. If you follow the previous advice, you do not have to remove the large decorative plate, but with one model of faucet you have to be very careful when you try to unscrew the retaining cap, or you will find yourself with a two piece faucet that few plumbers know how to fix without replacing it.

Thank you, it is a 1755 model, and have given up and called a plumber. I can not get the 'retaining ring/bonnett nut' off. Have tried WD 40 and hot vinegar (which is what the delta support person recommended)

Good idea, because with the 1400, 1500, and 1700 series I would not bother trying to replace the "washers and stuff". I install a new core assembly.
